Samsung A737 Mobile Phone Review
July 21st 2008 12:57
Hello, again. I hope this review helps you find a mobile phone you will enjoy using.
I am reviewing the Samsung a737 in Lime. I use the AT&T network which works on GSM enabled phones.
I have had this phone for approximately a month. Overall the ease of use is quite outstanding. The phone easily fits in my hand. This phone is a slider form-factor. As I have never used a slider before, it was quite easy to adapt from a flip phone. In fact, I prefer the slider.
Pros:
# nice springy action for slider mechanism
# colors are attractive
# screen is bright and clear, great for photos and wallpapers
# wonderful addressbook features such as several phone number slots, group, ringer id, caller ID photo, email addresses, notes
# nice camera (1.3mp)
# can capture video with sound
# auto keypad lock when slider is closed
# long battery life in standbye, and even while in use
# no full-featured games provided, all demos
# audio quality is outstanding for a phone
# micro-SD card slot (not under battery)
# most ringtones are quite loud
# utilizes 3G and Edge networks
Cons:
#color (Lime) does not look like Lime in their pictures - actually looks gold.
# keypad is a bit small and flat to the surface, hard to dial one-handed if you have short stubby hands
# sending text messages are a bit hard to do one-handed as when holding it your thumb is a bit cramped
# menu systems are a bit confusing, even for a cell phone expert
# video resolutions are extremely low, largest is 176x144 *boooo* I would prefer 320x240 as that is a much more standard resolution
# half of the menu system is not needed (for me)
# multi-function button on right side tends to get clicked when on a call, this brings up a strange menu system that can sometimes interfere with your call, or even when trying to hang up the call. (never used)
Main Menu
-AT&T Mall (shopping for tones, games, graphics, multimedia) (never used)
-Messaging (create new message, inbox, mobile email, IM)
-Address Book
- Media Net (never used)
- Cellular Video (streaming video like Youtube on mobile phones) (never used)
- AT&T Music (music player, shop music, MusicID, XM Radio) (never used)
- Recent Calls
- My Stuff (audio, answer tones, graphics, videos)
- Settings (quick tips, set sound profile, set display, set time and date)
--- this menu is available even in the closed state but many functions require the phone to be open.
Options menu (right softkey from home screen)
- You can choose up to 12 quick shortcuts for commonly used functions such as 'camera', 'calendar', 'bluetooth', 'missed calls', etc.
- This menu is available even when the phone is in the closed state.
When creating a text message it is a bit confusing at first to try to find how to actually send it. You need to click the right softkey which says (Send To) even though you already provided the telephone number or email address. You must click Send To, that brings up a list of addresses/phone numbers to add to the To section. If you don't touch anything in that menu you can simply press the right softkey again which states "Send".
Overall the phone is a very good phone. Menu systems are quick, signal strength is higher than average, even in my low-signal area.
I rather enjoy using this phone. I hope this review has helped you in your search for a mobile phone.
